Uh, Popular? Halo 3, at this point in time, and maybe this whole gen.Then again, I only speak from the Western side of the world, perhaps a world tally would surprise us. I think Halo has had just SO MUCH MARKETING out there for it, though. MONEY can make things POPULAR. Of course, being of quality does help for longevity's sake.

Die Hard vs Lord of the Rings
Looking at sales it seems Halo 3 is popular by quite a large margin, though it's not exactly difficult to see why. Shooters are incredibly popular this generation (and made their mark last gen definitely) which is focused on Multiplayer, which is yet another thing that it seems the majority want this generation, whereas MGS4 is a single player experience and is the end of a 4-part tale of Solid Snake. Don't get me wrong though, I adored MGS4 (and am part of the single player > multiplayer camp who are, if not a minority, then at least rather non-vocal) but it's obvious that Halo takes the popularity crown.Though you would need to define popularity I guess. I'd guarantee that most people who come in here and think for more than 10 seconds are going to equate popularity to sales; it's simply logical.

People love to hate Halo here, even if they haven't played it.
