Mods are not all that Hermits say they a ...

Yea yea, you get your ocassional Counter Strike epic mod or your Natural Selection going but If you have no experience in putting mods or downloading mods, all I have to say is 98% of all mods are garbage, 1.5% are fun to use, and 0.5% are what I call ''epic'' mods. that 98% will either crash your game, make it horribly unstable, are unfinished, unbalance the game dramatically, or are just not fun at all. Take for instance the morrowind mods, there are a lot of them, and when you throw in 50 plug-ins at once, personally my game can't stand but to crash after 30 minutes into it, plus sometimes you get these items which make you super unwidely powerful at the begining striping out whatever challange there was and vince versa, or cases where the AI can't work like in Empire At War where you can get extra units which the computer AI has no idea how to deal with or even to build these implemented units. To also include, is that the fact the ocassional Counter Strike epic only comes after about 3-4 years since the release of the game. I got Half Life 2 thinking I was going to get these amazing mods from the get go and no.... The best thing there was Garry's Mod for which at the time was nothing more than a glorified console command. You might be thinking ''just don't play the bad ones.'' Well it's hard to filter the bad ones from the good ones because professional sites that you may use to influence your purchasing decisions at the stores don't exactly exist in the modding world, you just gotta browse around and try them all which there are litterally thousands of. Also, some games do not have a very easy way to install your mods, some force you to replace files and back up your old ones if you want to play the original unmodded version which is a big pain. Mod's are not as fantasic as Hermits say they are. Well that may be cutting the modding community short, but for every Natural Selection and Counter Strike, there are a billion of horrible, buggy, unfinished mods out there. Don't go buying a game, especially a new game for the PC thinking that mod's are the best thing since slice bread. It's like Digging through coal, and every now and so you will find a diamond.Mods are not all that Hermits say they a ...
All I can say is that Oblivion with mods is a brand new experienceQarl's Texture Pack 3
Clocks of Cyrodil
Illumination Within
Ancient Towers
Lost Spires
Fransescos Mod

Most major games in the modding community DO have websites that rate mods and filter out the bad ones, especially those that ruin games or just don't work. In that regard, mods are as good as most hermits make them out to be. Games like Morrowind and Oblivion, for example, have so many quality mods that you get the same value as you would with 3 or 4 games for just buying one game.
Mods really are that good. Civilisation has literally hundreds of good ones.
Total conversion mods are often crap but there are pleanty of good ones and mods basically fixed all the problems with Oblivion and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Oblivion because of stupid design choices and Vampire because of unpatched bugs.

Seems pretty easy and straight forward to me. You make it seem as though finding goods mods takes effort. If it wasn't for mods, Oblivion would've been a complete waste of money. Oblivion Lost made STALKER much better. Mods for Quake 2 %26 3 greatly added to the both game's longevity.

One epic mod per game is all you need. Deus Ex is the greatest game of all time, IMO. Deus Ex with the Shifter mod is the only perfect piece of software ever made, IMO.And most of the other decent mods use the epic mods as jump-off points, so you're just further enhancing the already-enhanced experience.

Yes there are sites that rate mods but the total votes for something awesome like Counter-life only gets 78 votes which to a person they would think that the rating is insignifigant since it's only 78 votes.
There are many many many good mods out their...you just have to know where to look....Mods can fix all the issues in Oblivion, STALKER...etc.they can make BF2 the most atmospheric and intense team based shooter you have ever played....if anything, Mods are underated.
Indeed its much to risky to download these mods, and too difficult to make them your self
If you have the patience to look, you will find all the greatest mods ever... many of which are better than the original game, i.e. Oblivion Lost for STALKER.
for 3-4 times the instability....
Um..what? I've never had a mod cause game instability. Then again I don't download anything and everything..however I DID have somewhere in the area of 60-80 individual mods for Oblivion (some were dependent on one another.) I always read descriptions/comments and took a look at the mod's ratings before downloading.
Indeed its much to risky to download these mods, and too difficult to make them your self
Do a little research and there is no risk. Of course game development is not easy and mods are a grat way for aspiring developers to cut their teath in the industry.
you guys do know that most mods are rather in beta or slightly unstable?its always going to be like that at first.and yes mods are fantastic IMO. they add to the replay value of a game and can make a game last a month while most consle games last around a week or 2really IDK how anyone can play gears of war for more then over a week. It just gets boring after a while doing the same thing. But if you add a modd in then its a totaly diffrent experiance most of the time.
There a literally tons of great mods for various games like UT2k4, Morrowind, Stalker, etc.
You're right. Mods aren't all that...... they're better.
