Spore - over half a million ....

pirated That's a lot of downloads in such a short time and still increasing. Pirates blame DRM but most sensible people know that's just an excuse. Torrents are one of the only trackable piracy methods but there are others.LinkSpore was without doubt the most anticipated game of the year. The game itself has blown away the people who have played it, but the DRM encouraged thousands to get their copy illegally. Already Spore has been downloaded more than 500,000 times on BitTorrent, and this number is increasing rapidly. As a comparison, Crysis, one of the best-selling PC games of this year has only been downloaded 420,000 times since it was released in November 2007. The Sims 2 currently holds the record for the most pirate downloads. There are no accurate stats for this game, since it was released long before we started tracking downloads, but we estimate that approximately 1 million copies have been downloaded.Spore - over half a million ....
Thats insane. And I thought pirating for Assassin's Creed was bad.Spore - over half a million ....
It's funny how DRM is hurting them more than helping them when it comes to pirating. I'm sure as hell not going to buy it.
Well the only reason for buying would be the online features right? Also they should make it safer from pirating by using steam.
I bought it.
BUT i have to say. It wasn't in english. The game wasn't available in english. That's not a good move.
I'm not approving this piracy stuff. It would have helped if language was an option where i live, anyways.
they lost 25 Million dollars.
I bought it.
they lost 25 Million dollars.
no they didnt...thats a completly **** way of looking at it...only a fraction of those actually pirating the game would have bought it in the first place.

Popular games get pirated like crazy. Same thing happened with GTA4 and the same will happen with Spore.Though I must admit the DRM is a contributor.
''Pirating is not that big of a problem.'' - Generic Hermit from this forum.

Now how long until somebody quotes this and tries to explain why the numbers revealed by this thread aren't that big of a deal...
Well the only reason for buying would be the online features right? Heh, no it wasn't, and no, it didn't. It got average reviews and is widely viewed as a flop.

I don't really care about the piracy either. Nonthing new.

I regret to have not pirated spore, but only to try it. I wasted 50$ on a really bad casual game. Now I know why Ea did not made any demo available. Anyway, I will be more cautious next time and read more review.
