So I was one of those lucky few who managed to get a PS3 preorder during the 2006 preorder s-storm. I payed $650 for my PS3, and honestly, I don't feel much remorse (though in retrospect, $650 was a lot for how little i actually play it, but i think thats mostly due to me not having any income at the moment) except the fact that now I could get one with more HDD space (but without the BC, and less USB ports) for $200 less. Understandable, and expected. But I didn't expect Sony to drop the price less than a year into the consoles life :/ So I got burnt there.
and my friend was an early 360 adopter (I don't think he preordered, but he got his within the first few months of it being out) and has had at least one RROD box, and his replacement ate his HDD, and now the replacement for that one is RR'ing on him randomly, and the CD tray doesn't work right, and it ate his CoD4 disc (so he bought a new one, and gave the scratched one to a friend of ours who fixed it and now uses it 8D). And I hear a lot of other early 360 adopters had problems (not all, but a good amount of them)
It just seems like early adopting anymore isn't the wisest choice. I think next gen, I'll wait till all the consoles are out, and judge them based on their merits. If Sony plays the same cards they are this gen, I think I'll just go with whatever it is Microsoft has to offer. at least at first, untill Sony gives me a reason to buy the console. However, if MS continues this ''pay to play with your friends'' garbage, I may just skip their console again. I refuse to pay to play console games online with my friends. That should be a standard feature. But I'm not going to get into that.
TL;DR: Will you Jump In/Play B3yond early next gen? Next gen, early adopter?
It depends on what each company has to offer. I usually buy at least one of the systems on the day of release. Last gen it was the PS2, this gen I got the Wii, and next gen I'll probably get a Xbox on release.Next gen, early adopter?
Yes,because when ''next gen'' comes, only thing i need to upgrade will be probably GPU or CPU+motherboardand thats ~ 300$And im on horse again(same with this gen, while everyone was spending 600$ for new console,we pc users just throw in new 200$ GPU and we are in lead again  )
I will never adopt a new console early. Unfortunatly, I can really only get 1 console per generation. So I'm going to wait, just like I did this gen, and see what console I like the most after a few years.
maybe, depending if I can get all the systems and games I want for this gen. I hate falling behined like I do every gen. Last gen. I got a p1 the moment the ps2 came out.. THis gen I got an xbox the moment the 360 got released.. That is so annoying.
I said Maybe. cause honestly its hard to say right now. But if for SURE am going to wait until i know the final specs of all the machines. (For instance, if MS tries to release early again, i'm going to wait untill all the consoles are announced, and launch titles are confirmed)
No. Saving money for a condo...possibly a house.

When I got a DS, the DS Lite was announced for Japan. When I got the 360, the 360 Elite was announced.

Maybe. Not buying another console without 100% backwards compatibility.
I'll most likely Jump In next gen. Thne 360 feels like its in it's mid-life for me. I've played some really great games on there. All I've gotten from the PS3 were MGS4 and Warhawk. They are awesome games but surely aren't enough. Uncharted, HS, Ratchet and such just aren't cutting it. I don't think they're on par with the games on the 360 at all, but just ''meh''...I think I'll do the same thing I did this gen: Buy MS's console then wait to see what Sony does with the PS4.
never unless i'm rich.
I was tell myself that I won't be an early adopter for obvious reasons. But I always end up being an early adopter....So yes
Yep. I want the next Xbox from day one. Probably ditching Nintendo next gen.
Yes, because I basically believed that all Ps3 killer apps were coming out in 2007.
it really depends on the release game for me. if microsoft launches with gears of war im buying it day 1. if nintendo launches with zelda im buying it day 1. if sony launches with team ico game or god of war im buying day one. but there are other games that could make me buy it day also. i will wait and see.
If there are any grumblings about failure rate being high.... then NO.... but if the hardware is solid... then YES, why not?
why not?
Price? I thought a lot of people would be willing to wait for the first price drop.
